The concept of Smart Highways represents a transformative shift in transportation infrastructure—where roadways are embedded with sensors, communication systems, and advanced materials to enable enhanced safety, efficiency, and connectivity. These intelligent road systems can dynamically monitor traffic flow, weather conditions, and structural health. This connectivity allows real-time data exchange with vehicles and control centers, aiding rapid response to incidents, improved traffic management, and predictive maintenance. Maintenance of embedded systems and long-term durability of new materials also remain areas requiring rigorous testing.
